Applying for Copyright

The copyright law is there to stop people taking other peoples work and saying its there own. It is enforced by government, anyone using someone else's work e.g. Madonnas 'Hung up' she had to ask ABBA to use there riff also having to pay them. They use it on most CDs to stop people form taking credit for others work. You can Copy write something by making it and them putting it in an envelope with a date on it once made, this will be used as evidence if ever needed in court. For someone to use your work they need to contact you sometimes even offer money.

Because we are using another persons song we have to apply for copyrights to Ellie Gouldings song 'You, My Everything' and under the video on youtube we will have to write a line saying all rights of song are still with Interscope. Ellie Goulding works for Interscope which is split up into 3 smaller music labels we could only find there email meaning we have emailed them asking to use there music for our video. If we didn't apply for this or give this information we could be taken to court for stealing someone else's work.

Dear copyright holder,

We are a group of A Level student’s from West Hatch High School, writing to request your permission for the song You my everything (skins fire remix)  by Ellie Goulding With your permission, we would create a music video for this song, which would part of our coursework.
The song would only be used in an educational context, viewed only by our media class and OCR examination’s officer. It will not be released to a large audience. The audience and your company would of course, be recognised throughout and a copyright notice may be added to our projects if you wish. In this case, you may send us this information.
We look forward in hearing from you,

Kind regards

  1. This demonstrates some understanding of why music copyright is essential to carry out. Aim to include your response, once you have received it.
